Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 But when it comes upon them suddenly, taking them unawares, 202 Then will they say: "Can we be given respite?" 203 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 For reminder, for We never were oppressors. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 Warn your tribe and your near kinsmen. 214 and extend kindness and affection to those of the believers who follow you. 215 then, if they disobey thee, say, 'I am quit of that you do.' 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest [alone,] 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Do you not see that in every valley they roam 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 The righteously striving believers among them who remember God very often and use their talent to seek help after they have been wronged are the exceptional. The unjust will soon know how terrible their end will be. 227
