۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On couches facing one another; 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 Are we then not to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
