۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 Are we then not to die 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
