And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Except the bondmen of Allah sincere. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 and we glorify God". 166 And surely they used to say: 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 will certainly be victorious 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
