We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 The Pharaoh shouted to his people, "My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine? and can you not see that the streams flow from beneath my palace? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
