Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 Then by oath of those which carry the burdens. 2 by the ships which smoothly sail on the oceans, 3 And the angels who distribute the affair. 4 Verily the promise made to you is true: 5 And the judgment must most surely come about. 6 And by oath of the decorated heaven. 7 Certainly, you have different ideas (about Muhammad SAW and the Quran). 8 Turned aside therefrom (i.e. from Muhammad SAW and the Quran) is he who is turned aside (by the Decree and Preordainment of Allah). 9 Slain be those who mould from their imaginations. 10 Those who (flounder) heedless in a flood of confusion: 11 They ask, "When it will be the Day of Judgment?" 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (i.e. burnt) over the Fire! 13 Taste your persecution! this is what you would hasten on. 14 [But,] behold, the God-conscious will find themselves amid gardens and springs, 15 Taking that which their Lord giveth them; for lo! aforetime they were doers of good; 16 They used to sleep but little in the night. 17 and would pray for forgiveness from their innermost hearts; 18 and in their wealth there was a rightful share for him who would ask and for the destitute. 19 On the earth, and in yourselves, 20 As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see? 21 And in the heaven is your sustenance and what you are threatened with. 22 Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking. 23
