The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 By the roof elevated. 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
