The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
