The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
