A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left - how wretched are those on the left! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore, O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him, proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
