A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool nor good. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
