a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
