In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
