The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
