The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
