The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
