The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
