The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
