The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30

كيف تعمل منظومة تمارين الحفظ؟ عند أدنى مستوى 0، تكون كل الكلمات ظاهرة. بينما يُخفي أعلى مستوى 9 كل الكلمات. فكيف تعمل المستويات المتوسطة، مثل 3، على سبيل المثال؟ قد تعتقد بأن المنظومة تخفي 3 من كل تسع كلمات بدقة. ليس تماما! في المستوى 3، لكل كلمة فرصة اختفاء بنسبة 3 من 9، و6 من 9 لتكون ظاهرة. بمعنى آخر، من الممكن، ولكن باحتمال شبة معدوم، أن تكون جميع كلمات المستوى 3 مخفية، أو أن تكون جميعها ظاهرة! وكذلك أيضًا، ففي المستويات المتوسطة، وبما يتناسب مع مستوى الصعوبة، يمكن أن تكون المخابئ غير كاملة أو شفافة جزئيًا بحيث تظهر الكلمات جزئيًا تحتها.
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
