The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the angels who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers from their bodies, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). 3 And then they speed with foremost speed. 4 And then they manage the affair, 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 Has the story of Moses come to you 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself 18 that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)." 19 Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign. 20 But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 and gathered his people together 23 Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). 26
