He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
