Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
