Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 well arranged goblets, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
