Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
