Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
