Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
