Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
