Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
