The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
