The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
