The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
