The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
