The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
