The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
