The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
