Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
