And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
