The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
