The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Merciful One 1 Bestowed the Qur'an, 2 He created man. 3 He taught distinctness. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning, 5 and the stars and the trees bow themselves; 6 And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance 7 that you may not transgress in the balance, 8 Always measure with justice and do not give short measure. 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] 11 And grain covered with husk, and fragrant flowers. 12 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 13 He has created man out of sounding clay, like pottery, 14 and has created the jinn from the flame of fire. 15 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 16 He is the Lord of the two easts and the Lord of the two wests. 17 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 18 He hath loosed the two seas. They meet. 19 Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass. 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 From them come forth the pearl and the coral. 22 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 23 By His command, the ships with raised masts sail on the sea like mountains. 24 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 25

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
