'Aad denied the messengers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
