And indeed We created you, then designed you and then ordered the angels, “Prostrate before Adam”; so they all prostrated, except Iblis (Satan); he did not become of those who prostrate. 11 God asked, "What prevented you from prostrating yourself when I commanded you to?" He replied, "I am better than he is; You created me from fire, while You created him from clay." 12 Said Allah, “Therefore go down from here – it does not befit you to stay here and be proud – exit, you are of the degraded.” 13 Satan replied: 'Give me respite till the Day they shall be raised.' 14 (Allah) said: "You are of those allowed respite." 15 He said: Now, because Thou hast sent me astray, verily I shall lurk in ambush for them on Thy Right Path. 16 “Then I will certainly approach them – from their front and from behind them and from their right and from their left; and You will find most of them not thankful.” 17 (Allah) said (to Iblis) "Get out from this (Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all." 18 'O Adam, inherit, thou and thy wife, the Garden, and eat of where you will, but come not nigh this tree, lest you be of the evildoers.' 19 Then Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shameful parts. He said, 'Your Lord has only prohibited you from this tree lest you become angels, or lest you become immortals.' 20 and he swore to them, "Surely, I am your well-wisher." 21 Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you? 22 The two replied: "O our Sustainer! We have sinned against ourselves - and unless Thou grant us forgiveness and bestow Thy mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost!" 23 He said: Get forth, some of you, the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time. 24 He said: "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)." 25
