We sent Salih to his brethren, the tribe of Thamud, who told them, "Worship God your only Lord. Authoritative evidence has come to you from your Lord and this she-camel is the evidence for you from God. Let her graze in the land of God. Do not give her any trouble lest a painful torment will strike you. 73 "And remember when He made you successors after 'Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth." 74 The great ones among his people, who gloried in their arrogance towards all who were deemed weak, said unto the believers among them: "Do you [really] know that salih has been sent by his Sustainer?" They answered: "Verily, we believe in the message which he bears." 75 Those who were scornful said: Lo! in that which ye believe we are disbelievers. 76 Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!" 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Then he turned away from them and said: O my people I did certainly deliver to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice, but you do not love those who give good advice. 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 In preference to women you satisfy your lust with men. Indeed you are a people who are guilty of excess." 81 Their only answer was: 'Banish them from your town. They are a people who pretend to be pure.' 82 Then We delivered Lot and his household save his wife who stayed behind, 83 and We rained down upon them a rain. So look how was the end of the evildoers. 84
