Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 Allah said: "For sure you are granted respite 37 "Till the predetermined time." 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
