And mention in the Book, Mary, how she withdrew from her people to an eastern place and she took a veil apart from them; 16 out of her people's sight. We sent Our Spirit to her, who stood before her in the shape of a well formed human being. 17 She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah." 18 He said, "I am the Messengers of your Lord. I have come to give you a purified son". 19 She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste? 20 He said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is with Me easy, and it is in order that We may make him a sign unto mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is an affair decreed. 21 ۞ So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. 22 And [when] the throes of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree, she exclaimed: "Oh, would that I had died ere this, and had become a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten!" 23 But he called her from below her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. 24 and if you shake the trunk of this palm-tree, it will drop fresh ripe dates on you. 25 So eat and drink thou, and cool thine eyes; and if thou beholdest the human beings anyone, say: verily I have vowed to the Compassionate a fast, so I shall not speak today to any human being. 26 Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing. 27 O sister of Haroun! your father was not a bad man, nor, was your mother an unchaste woman. 28 Then she Pointed to him. They said: how shall we speak to one who is in the cradle, a child? 29 He said, 'Lo, I am God's servant; God has given me the Book, and made me a Prophet. 30 and made me blessed wherever I may be; and He has enjoined upon me prayer and charity as long as I live, 31 “And has made me good to my mother and not made me forceful, ill-fated.” 32 And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive." 33 Such is Isa, son of Marium; (this is) the saying of truth about which they dispute. 34 It is not conceivable that God should have taken unto Himself a son: limitless is He in His glory! When He wills a thing to be, He but says unto it "Be" - and it is! 35 (Jesus only said:) "Surely God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path." 36 And yet, the sects [that follow the Bible] are at variance among themselves [about the nature of Jesus Woe, then, unto all who deny the truth when that awesome Day will appear! 37 How sharp of hearing, how sharp of sight they will be when they come to Us. But today, these evil-doers are obviously lost in error. 38 Warn them of [the coming of] the Day of Remorse, when everything will have been decided, while they are heedless and do not believe. 39 It is We Who will inherit the earth, and all beings thereon: to Us will they all be returned. 40
