۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
