And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
