'Aad denied the messengers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
