And a sign to them is the dead earth: We give life to it and bring forth from it grain so they eat of it. 33 and We made therein gardens of palms and vines, and therein We caused fountains to gush forth, 34 so that they might eat of its fruit and the labor of their hands. Will they not give thanks? 35 Exalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know. 36 A token unto them is night. We strip it of the day, and lo! they are in darkness. 37 While the sun keeps revolving in its orbit. This is the dispensation of the mighty, all-knowing (God). 38 And the moon, We have determined it in phases till it returns like an old palmbranch. 39 It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law). 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We have created for them of the like thereunto whereon they ride. 42 And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved 43 But (by) mercy from Us and for enjoyment till a time. 44 And [yet,] when they are told, "Beware of [God's insight into] all that lies open before you and all that is hidden from you, so that you might be graced with His mercy," [most men choose to remain deaf;] 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 and when they are told, "Give to others out of what God has provided for you," those who are bent on denying the truth say to the believers, "Why should we feed those whom God could feed if He wanted? You are clearly in error!" 47 And they say: "When will this promise come to pass, if what you say is true?" 48 They await just one scream, which will overcome them while they are involved in worldly disputes. 49 So they shall not be able to make a bequest, nor shall they return to their families. 50
