۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Are we then not to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
