Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 A revelation from the Beneficent, the Merciful, 2 a Book whose verses have been well-expounded; an Arabic Qur'an for those who have knowledge, 3 proclaiming good news and a warning. Yet most of them turn away and so do not listen. 4 And they say: our hearts are under veils from that whereunto thou callest us, and in our ears there is heaviness, and betwixt us and thee there is a curtain; work thou then, verily we are workers. 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 who do not pay zakat and have no faith in the life to come. 7 (As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have a reward never to be cut off. 8
