Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
